Ashley Loring Heavyrunner: Unsolved Disappearance from Browning, Montana

On June 5, 2017, 20-year-old Ashley Loring Heavyrunner vanished from the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, Montana.

A student at Blackfeet Community College studying environmental science, Ashley was known for her strong ties to her family and her passion for helping others, particularly in raising awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Her disappearance remains one of the many unsolved cases contributing to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) crisis.

Ashley was last seen at a party on the reservation, captured in a video shared online. She reportedly messaged friends for a ride home that night but went silent after no one could assist.

Her family grew concerned when she didn’t contact them, especially during her father’s hospitalization.

Despite extensive searches led by her sister, Kimberly Loring, and the discovery of items like a sweater and boots believed to be Ashley’s, no definitive leads have surfaced.

The FBI joined the investigation in 2018, and a $65,000 reward, including $50,000 from the Up and Vanished podcast, is offered for information leading to answers.

Her family continues to hold annual walks, like “Ashley’s Walk,” to honor her and others missing.

If you have information about Ashley’s disappearance, please contact the Salt Lake City FBI at (801) 579-1400 or the Bureau of Indian Affairs at (833) 778-4758.

Let’s keep Ashley’s story alive and work toward justice.
